Ensure Protections for ALL of Our Nation's Waters

Consider writing a letter to your Congressman urging him to co-sponsor the Clean Water Authority Restoration Act (S. 912/H.R. 1356) and thus help in keeping ALL of our nation's waters healthy and safe.

The split U.S. Supreme Court decision a few weeks ago in two Clean Water Act cases could mean that a number of waters lose protections under the Clean Water Act. Congress should act now to clarify the issue and affirm the broad protection of our nation's waters. Congress should pass the Clean Water Authority Restoration Act to ensure that ALL of our nation¹s waters are protected now and for the future.
More than thirty years ago, our leaders established a landmark goal: Make all water of the United States safe for swimming and fishing. The Clean Water Act has worked for over 40 years because it protects all waters of the United States. Our clean drinking water sources depend on the clean healthy surface waters that risk losing protection today.

But today, protections for many of our waters are at risk of being lost. The recent decision will lead to endless administrative proceedings and legal challenges in the lower courts. We are encouraged however, that five of the nine justices recognized the incredible importance of protecting our wetlands and other waters and rejected the narrow interpretation of the clean Water Act put forth by Justices Scalia, Thomas, Alito and Roberts.

Congress should pass the Clean Water Authority Restoration Act (HR. 1356 & S. 912), and clarify that it intended the broadest possible protections for our nation’s waters.
