Sierra Club Chester County is Forming Committees to Better Meet the Mission and Needs of our Membership

Interested in Hiking and outdoor discovery?... Or is your to to affect local policy and legislation?... or would you like to be involved in vetting local politial candidates for club endorsement? ... or does your passion lie in learning more about environmental issues?

You can be as involved as you want to be:

  • Maybe you'll want to join an email list to a committee email list to remain aware of hikes, issues, or events that your committee is focused on...
  • Or perhaps you'll want to attend meetings on a regular basis to help decide what the committee does...
  • Or you might want to take part in helping do the work of the committee...
  • Also, some committee leadership posts are open or are staffed with interim leaders. If you have pastion for an evironmental issue area now your is your chance to influence it.

Description of Committees

Membership - Responsible for growing the membership by organizing and leading membership drives, maintaining member lists, using tools such as tabling events, online tools, op-eds and others TBD. Click here to contact co-chairs Mary Ciarrocchi and Richard Whiteford

Conservation - Heads up initiatives related to Air, Energy, Public Lands, Global Warming, International Trade, Land Use, Mining, Power Lines, Sustainable Agriculture, Solid Waste, Water, and related issues. Determining which issues the club will take a position on, and rallying committee and general members to advocate for those positions. Activities might include tabling events, attendance at municipal and other public comment hearings/meetings, production of op-ed pieces, online blogging, lobbying of legislators and elected officials. Political - Responsible for coordinating with SE PA Group (Bill Brainerd) for the interviewing of candidates leading to endorsements. Click here to contact acting chair John Post

Communication/Webmaster - Responsible for maintaining distribution lists, oversees communications with members on meetings, outings, committee plans and status. Other tools might include submission of press releases to announce meetings, report progress, or in support of other committees. Manages the website and shared calendar.
