Calendar: Bucks County Chapter Meetings
Meetings at Churchville Nature Center
Every 2nd Thursday - 7 PM to 9 PM
Announcing a new meeting for Sierra Club -Bucks County PA!
What: Sierra Club - Annual 5-mile Tyler Hike
When: Saturday, May 31, 12:00 PM
Where: Click the link below to find out!
Who should come: Anyone who thinks anytime outside beats TV
Meeting Description: Hello everyone,
We are doing our yearly hike at Tyler earlier this year. We did NOT do the full 5 miles last year because of extreme heat in August. So, since this hike is popular (and close by), we will do it in Late May/Early June from here on out.
So, if you want to see ALL of Tyler - with many twist and turns, hidden trails, cliffs, streams, dams, and gardens (and also maybe burn off a pound or two) - then come to The Schofield Ford Bridge Covered Bridge entrance on Swamp Road on May 31st (Saturday) at 12 PM.
For those of you mainly familiar with Tyler from the paved trails, you will be in for a surprise. In keeping with the Sierra spirit of minimizing our carbon emmissions (not to mention ridiculous gas prices), it will be a good idea to keep things as local as possible for a while. Once Rt32 opens up again, we will be exploring further up river soon - but not too far. (I noticed the Black Bass in Lumberville is being auctioned off - bummer, they had the best brunch ever)
PLEASE NOTE: This is a pretty rigorous and long hike (the hills at Tyler are deceptive) and rates an 8 on the day-hike scale. Make sure to bring water, a lunch and good hiking boots.
DIRECTIONS: This is NOT the main Tyler Park entrance, but rather the covered bridge entrance further West on Swamp Road coming out of Newtown. For those of you coming from RT 232, take a left on Swamp road when traveling South from Wrightstown.
My cell phone is 1-267-614-3906. Please call if you are lost or late. Or call me anytime for more explicit directions. We will wait 15 minutes for everyone to show.
Hope to see you there.

Hey folks-
This summer the Sierra Club is planning to have a Clean Energy Tour of Bucks County. With all the recent attention on clean energy we want to highlight local examples and how to support these efforts happening in Bucks County .
The basic idea of a Clean Energy Tour is to rent a bus and fill it with citizens and elected officials and take them to local examples of clean energy solutions so they can learn more about the great steps being taken in Bucks. The next step is to plan and work out the event logistics (ie- locations, bus, coordinating the stops, inviting the public, etc).
The first planning meeting will be:
Thursday, June 5th
6:30pm - 8:30pm
Newtown Township Building (Martindale Room)
100 Municipal Drive
(just north of the All Saints Cemetery on Route 413)
If you are interested please stop by to help out with this great summer event.
cheers-

SIERRA CLUB LEVEL I POLITICAL TRAINING: An Online/Teleconference
Interactive Learning Experience
"Political Training” is for Sierra Club activists (or potential activists)
who are interested in Sierra Club’s political program and how to make
political endorsements and learn about the legal compliance issues that
help us do it right!
The mission of the course is to teach basic political compliance and the
fundamentals of the candidate endorsement process, and to engage
participants in communicating with other Sierra club political activists.
NOTE: Anyone planning to attend the SCPC National Political Training this
October is strongly encouraged to participate in both of these Level 1
classes as part of the preliminary training portion of the national
training.
APPLY NOW (go to Clubhouse Training/Tutorials link at
http://clubhouse.sierraclub.org/go/training/) for “Political Training”
courses in Basic Political Compliance and Endorsement Process. Courses are
offered at various times between June and September.
Course Technology Note: This course is best viewed using a high-speed
(Cable-modem, DSL, or Network) connection to the Internet. Those with a
dial-up connection may still participate by teleconference, but may wish to
access alternate computers for some of the multimedia presentations.
During the course, you will interact with Sierra Club Political activists,
learning peers, and Sierra Club Political Committee trainers and Compliance
staff. You will gain basic skills and knowledge about the endorsement
process – e.g., how to evaluate candidates and complete the necessary
forms; and, about political compliance – e.g., how to use member-to-member
communication to help endorsed candidates. You will also develop your
understanding of the Sierra Club resources that can help you during the
electoral season.
Through both courses, we will:
Review the mission of the Club’s political program
Learn how to effectively evaluate endorsement scenarios
Analyze the successful completion of Sierra Club Form 1 for endorsement
scenarios
Review which Chapter and Group entities are required in a vote to make
an endorsement on local, state, and national levels, and know how
many votes are required for an endorsing entity to approve an
endorsement
Familiarize ourselves with the basic Compliance guidance for political
work
Please note that you are strongly encouraged to sign up for both classes,
on dates that are most convenient for you. Each class will take one hour.
Please be prepared to make that commitment, so that you and your classmates
can obtain the full benefits.
