Interested in becoming involved in environmental policymaking in
our State? Sierra Club is offering internship opportunities
for students in the Chapter office located in Pennsylvania’s
State Capitol, Harrisburg!
The Sierra Club has been instrumental in preserving wilderness,
wildlife, and nature's most splendid wild places for over 100 years
— Yosemite National Park, Grand Canyon National Park, the
Florida Everglades and the Sequoia National Monument to name just
a few — helping protect over 150 million acres of wilderness
and wildlife habitat. By working as a Sierra Club intern, you’ll
have the privilege of directly helping to preserve Pennsylvania
wild places as well as improve the quality of life of Pennsylvania
communities.
Although internships are non-paying, students will have the opportunity
to:
• Assist in lobbying efforts to influence State decision
makers and Legislators
• Accompany Sierra Club staff to strategy sessions with environmental
leaders in our community
• Attend legislative and agency meetings and hearings
• Participate in press conferences
• Assist with a variety of activities that support grassroots
advocacy, such as preparation of mailings, database management,
volunteer recruitment, and issue research
In addition to gaining a behind-the-scenes perspective of a grassroots
based organization, students will develop personal confidence and
communication skills, meet influential people in the community,
and become familiar with environmental efforts in our State.
