" ... cleaner cars are here on the horizon - cars and
trucks that will pollute less, use less gasoline and save you money
"
With an active nudge - and some lively discussions - from Sierra
Club Pennsylvania Chapter Clean Air Chair Nancy Parks and Sierra
Club staff David Bookbinder, David Hamilton and Jeff Schmidt, the
PA DEP recognized its legal responsibility to provide for cleaner
cars in Pennsylvania this year. Pennsyania and its General Assembly
recognized in 1999 the wisdom of regularly advancing our personal
motor vehicle fleet into cleaner cars, mini-vans and pickups.
Now that cleaner cars are here on the horizon - cars and trucks
that will pollute less, use less gasoline and save you money - some
organizations here in Pennsylvania have geared up to stop this opportunity.
Lat's face it; some people want you to buy gasoline. You need to
lessen your exposure to toxic benzene in gasoline, and save $$ at
the pump.
HB 2141 in the Pennsylvania General Assembly has been crafted to
take away your right to see cleaner cars provided to Pennsylvania
auto dealerships. HB 2141 will:
- rollback efforts to provide for cleaner cars & trucks in
PA
Our personal vehicles account for 53.6% of all NOx and 36.7% of
all VOC pollution that impacts our health through ozone smog and
fine soot inhaled by our most vulnerable;
- new, cleaner car requirements will reduce another 9% of nitrogen
oxides (ground level ozone smog) statewide
- new, cleaner car requirements will reduce another 12% of volatile
organic chemicals (ground level ozone smog) statewide
- new, cleaner car requirements will reduce another 15% of carcinogenic
benzene, and
- new, cleaner car requirements will reduce another 30% of greenhouse
gases
