This year we will be convening at Tracy
Ridge to relax and enjoy the scenery and activities, brainstorm
at our Chapter excom meeting, eat good food, and catch up with old
friends.
Tracy Ridge, Allegheny National Forest, McKean County
Tracy Ridge Recreation Area is located along the flat ridgetop at
the beginning of a 33-mile trail system of interconnecting loops
in the Allegheny National Forest.
Pennsylvania's only National Forest is one of 15 National Forests
in the Eastern United States managed by the Forest Service, an agency
of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The Forest came into existence
in 1923, after the Pennsylvania Legislature approved and President
Calvin Coolidge signed a proclamation for Federal purchase of available
private lands for National Forest purposes to provide multiple benefits
in a sustainable way so future generations will enjoy these lands
Camping: We have a large group camping area reserved
with a capacity for 120 people. Bring your own camping gear and
food supplies!
Amenities: Picnic tables, fire rings, (outhouses)
vault toilets, cold water faucets, level ground for tents, adjacent
parking lot, no electricity.
Presenter: Saturday night's presenter to be announced.
Rick Potts, Chief of the Conservation and Outdoor Recreation Division
of the National Park Service, in Washington, DC. Rick has over 30
years experience in land, natural resources, and recreation management.
Potluck dinner: Everyone’s favorite –
the potluck dinner! – will be happening on Saturday night.
While we will provide staple grillables – burgers, veggieburgers,
buns, etc – we ask that everyone throw in a hand and contribute
something to share.
Activities: Planned group hikes and many
opportunities for individual exploration. The Tracy Ridge trail
offers a wonderful all-day hike that begins at a 2245 foot elevation
and drops to a 1328 foot elevation, which is where the normal summer
pool of the Allegheny Reservoir resides. The trail is located within
the Allegheny National Recreation Area, which is one of the few
roadless areas of the Forest.
