This year, with the Allegheny Group as our host, we will be convening at Laurel Hill State Park to relax and enjoy the scenery and activities, hear from biologist Ed Perry on global warming, organize and brainstorm at our ExCom meeting, eat some good food, and catch up with old friends. We hope you will join us!

Laurel Hill State Park
3935 pristine mountainous acres in Somerset County.
Highlights include boating, fishing at Laurel Hill Lake, an extensive trail system with plants and wildlife, a trail through old-growth hemlocks, picnicking and camping, and nearby Kooser State Park, Laurel Ridge State Park, and Ohiopyle State Park!

Camping: We have 3 large group camping areas reserved. Capacity 120 people. Bring your own camping gear and food supplies!

Amenities: 18 picnic tables, 3 fire rings, 3 outhouses, one cold water faucet, level ground for tents, adjacent parking lot, no electricity. If you choose not to reserve room in one of these free group spots, cabin rentals and other camping opportunities within the park are available for a fee. Call DCNR at 1-888-PA-PARKS to make your own arrangements.

Presenter: Ed Perry of the National Wildlife Federation will present “Global Warming: The Science and Impacts on Fish and Wildlife”. After 30 years with the US Fish and Wildlife Service, where Mr. Perry worked to protect streams and wetlands from development in PA, he began working on the Global Warming Campaign with the National Wildlife Federation. Mr. Perry’s goal is to organize the hunter-angler and conservation communities to take united action to reduce our own emissions and persuade decision-makers to support efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Mr. Perry will be discussing the impacts of global warming on fish and wildlife and what we can do to reduce the threat.

Potluck dinner: Everyone’s favorite – the potluck dinner! – will be happening on Saturday night. While we will provide staple grillables – burgers, veggieburgers, buns, etc – we ask that everyone throw in a hand and contribute something to share. Mmmm..thanks.

Activities will include hiking through a Virgin Hemlock Forest, a roadtrip to the beautiful Ohiopyle State Park Falls, a wind farm tour, and much more!

Please make reservations if you plan to attend part or all of the weekend.
